Getting to know Me, part 2

My favorite weird food: cheese toast where the bread isn't burned but the cheese is. Lucky for me, my partner has perfected the method of making cheese toast this way!

South Africa: country where I think the best wines currently come from! I've bought SA wines 3 out of 4 times at the past four wine tastings I've attended. (The oddball was from Portugal.)

My least favorite herb: definitely cilantro. I can't stand it. It tastes like soap. Ick!

Do I consider myself a "foodie": No, not if you consider a foodie to be a snob. I just enjoy food --- preparing it, serving it, and eating it.
I will try anything once -- it's how I found out I don't fancy anchovies or Phoenix Claws, but that I love green olives, edamame, and raw tuna.

Am I afraid to eat American beef?
Sometimes. I only use soy burger in my spaghetti recipes, but there are times I feel I just gotta have a big juicy all-meat burger from Hut's or I'll die!

What is my most guilty eating pleasure?
Homemade vanilla buttercream icing and a spoon.

Who is Theresa?

I love food, eating it more than cooking it, although I have a sizable cookbook collection. I even read Fast Food Nation a couple years ago, saw the movie, and I still eat meat. Hey, you only live once!

I've made a pact with three pals to dine at a gourmet fancy-schmancy restaurant once a month and then post a review of the food, the service, and the ambiance. You can see my most recent review (Wink) if you like. I also plan to review a variety of not-so-pretentious eateries as well. (Dog Almighty, anyone? Yum!)

I've also been reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and am learning so much about growing food, how disconnected I am from what I eat (physically, geographically, and spiritually), and how hard it is to maintain a locally-grown diet. I freely admit I've been in a food rut. I'm ready to claw my way out and really start taking advantage of all the wonderful food that's out there.

Chihuahua, chihuahua, chihuahua's a small dog, introduce yourself!

Well, I can tell you right now that I'm not as descriptive or "high klass" as the other contributor(s) but I can provide the following attributes to this blog.

  • My husband and I are in the process of experimenting with wine-making, jam-making, canning (possibly), and gardening so I can share those experiences.
  • I'm in the process of removing myself from fast foods. They've just lost it for me. My last two experiences have been lackluster binges that resulted in bloating and tons of guilt.
  • We live by a beef/chicken farm (with some turkeys and guineas/pheasants too!) so we can aptly afford free-range, yummy yummy local food. And let me tell you: delicious!
  • We have started frequenting the Farmer's Market and Farmstand frequently. Also very yum.
  • I still can't bring myself to buy all things organic. I'm working on it but when one spice costs $1.70 and the same "organic" spice costs $3.79, it's hard to justify.
  • I hate Wal-mart.

My name's Booklahver. I love food and I'm starting to really understand and appreciate that good food does not come out of a can/fryer/box. But that doesn't mean I won't stop eating that some of the time. :)
